One Year Later, the Work Continues
The Unite for Veterans Coalition Marks the First Anniversary of Rally
WASHINGTON — One year ago today, thousands of veterans, federal workers, families, and allies filled the National Mall to deliver a clear message: this country must keep its promises to those who served.
The Unite for Veterans Coalition came together on the anniversary of D-Day, 2025, to oppose cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs, defend the jobs of veterans serving in the federal workforce, and stand for the American values those in uniform swore to protect. The coalition that formed that day has not stood down.
"One year ago, we showed up on the Mall because the contract between this country and its veterans was being shredded," said retired Marine Lt. Col. Joe Plenzler, combat veteran and Unite for Veterans spokesperson. "That work isn't finished. The VA is still under pressure. Veterans' benefits are still under threat. The constitutional norms we defended in uniform still need defending at home. We're still here."
The threats that brought this coalition to Washington have not disappeared. In the year since June 6, 2025, Unite for Veterans has raised its voice on VA disability ratings, unauthorized military action, veterans' voting rights, the firing of senior military leaders without cause, domestic national guard deployments, and ICE’s actions in Minneapolis. Every statement, every action has been backed by the same veterans and allies who showed up on the Mall — people from every state, every branch, and every background.
We are grateful for every one of them. For those who marched. For those who called their representatives. For those who shared their stories. For those who have kept showing up.
The rally was the start. Our coalition is ready. Stand with us.
