Unite For Veterans Coalition Commends Congress for Reinstating Veteran Mortgage Assistance
With the Senate’s voice vote on Tuesday night, veterans struggling with mortgage payments will once again receive assistance, protecting them from losing their homes. This new bill, which we urge President Trump to sign, will allow veterans with VA home loans to move their skipped mortgage payments to the end of their loan term.
This new law addresses many of the issues the government created when it recklessly eliminated the Veterans Affairs Servicing Program (VASP) that had helped more than 17,000 veterans avoid foreclosure. When the VA shut this program down, an estimated 58,000 veterans eligible for assistance were exposed to foreclosure.
We strongly spoke out against the VA’s actions in May. At the time we asked Congress to step in and pass renewed assistance for veterans. We thank Congress for listening and acting to honor America’s commitments to its veterans. .
We’re pleased to see Congress recognize the need to keep America’s promises. We encourage Congress to fully exercise its Article I authority to address critical issues that may impact the veteran community.
