Veterans and Military Families Win as VA Rescinds Harmful Rule
Today’s decision by The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to rescind their recent rule on disability ratings is a clear victory for veterans, military families, and everyone who believes that those who served this country deserve a VA that works for them—not against them.
This outcome happened for one reason: veterans and military families spoke up, organized, and refused to accept a policy that would have harmed the very people the VA is meant to serve. From public comments to advocacy efforts across the country, our community made clear that this rule was unacceptable—and today, that message was heard.
We are encouraged to see the VA respond to the voices of those most affected. Listening to veterans is not a courtesy; it is a responsibility. When veterans raise concerns about access, fairness, and care, those concerns must be taken seriously—and acted upon.
“Today’s decision shows what is possible when veterans engage, when military families speak out, and when public pressure is applied in defense of earned benefits and dignity,” said retired Marine LtCol Joe Plenzler, combat veteran and Unite for Veterans spokesperson. “We will continue to remain vigilant, speak out when policies miss the mark, and work toward a VA that fully honors the sacrifices of those who served.”
This is what accountability looks like. This is what advocacy can achieve. And today, veterans won.
